2 for 1 is just so yesterday, we thought to ourselves. 3 for 1 is where it’s at nowadays, so that’s exactly what we have here. Three great prizes wrapped up in one exiting post!

Watersprite is always looking to find like-minded people, who want to see film flourish around the world and see new talent take off. And we’re delighted to have now found not one, not two, but three new prizes for the winners of the 2012 Watersprite Direction, Animation and Documentary awards, from three incredible new partners!

First up, Direction – the master vision behind any film, and we are thrilled to announce that Directors UK has offered the winning director a free one-year membership. Directors UK is the professional association of directors working with the moving image in the UK presided over by Paul Greengrass (Bourne Ultimatum, United 93). The organisation represents almost 4,000 working directors in all screen mediums, and offers a wide range of events and services to its members. It has just opened its doors to students and directors working in short film, music video, web media, games and commercials – and our winner will be one of the youngest to join this incredible network. Find out more at www.directors.uk.com

Next, Animation. The craftsman who wins this award at the 2012 Watersprite Awards will win a week of work experience with none other than the world-renowned Aardman Animations. Creators of Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and Chicken Run, Aardman are a powerhouse in the world of animation, and it seems this expertise is only matched by their generosity. We have been delighted by the astonishing quality of our nominees in this category, and so we are incredibly pleased to provide one of them with this invaluable chance to learn from one of the world’s best.

Finally, we are very proud to reveal a truly international development prize for our Documentary award winner. Our Documentary nominees this year come from Singapore, Poland and the US, and so it is fitting that the prize has been donated by the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association’s YourWorldView project. CBA YourWorldView is an online platform for new and emerging filmmakers to showcase their short films about issues of international interest. Running alongside WorldView, a funding organisation that has supported over 300 established programme makers to bring a different view of the world to UK audiences, YourWorldView brings together emerging talent and showcases new voices from across the globe.

CBA YourWorldView has given an extraordinary prize of £1000 to the winning filmmaker, to develop a new documentary, highlighting international development issues. As if that was not already enough, the winner will also be introduced to a professional mentor who will help with the project, and CBA will also help with promotion across all their platforms, to reach a global audience. A truly incredible prize for any documentary maker!

We are incredibly grateful to all of our prize sponsors. It’s always good to know there are such supportive, creative and dynamic organisations around who are willing to lend a hand to the new wave of talent coming through.
