** Submissions are now closed and judging is underway.**
We apologise for the delay with the announcement of shortlisted films. There was a delay in the judging process but these will be posted by 9 January at the very latest and all entrants will be emailed once the shortlists are online! Thanks for your patience.
The films which will be shown at the Watersprite Awards ceremony, will have gone through a thorough and individualised judging process, which comprises two stages:
Stage 1: Shortlisting (11-31 December 2011)
All films are watched online by individual judges, who may be students from film schools across the world, filmmakers or academics in Cambridge. Each film will be marked on different criteria, depending on which awards it is entered into. Each film will be seen by 5 judges, varied by geography and experience. An average of scores for each award will be collected, and by this process, a shortlist of eight entries for each category will be generated.
Shortlisted filmmakers will be notified by 2 January.
Stage 2: Juries (9-20 January 2012)
Technical awards
Films through to the second round of judging will be viewed and discussed by a jury of experts in film. Four nominees will be decided by consensus, after thorough discussions. The winner will be decided by a secret vote, and only the chair of each jury will know the winning film,
Genre/format awards and Film of Year
Films in each genre/format category will be judged by juries, as per the technical awards. However, the winning films in each genre will automatically be put forward for the Film of the Year award.
All panels will be chaired by a Watersprite committee member, and comprised of professionals, local filmmakers and students.
All nominees will be informed of their nomination by 22 January so that they can make plans to attend the Watersprite Awards ceremony.
