Submit Your Film

Submissions open 1st November – 1st December, 2017.

  • A platform for your film!

The event in March is a great platform for the films, but it’s just one of many that we create for the nominated films. Watersprite is growing in size and reach every year, and as we grow we are receiving more and more attention from the wider industry. This summer alone we have shown Watersprite winners at Cannes (in conjunction with IEFTA), sent a programme of short films to Dhaka International Film Festival and sent private screeners to industry professionals after they requested to see some of our winning films. We are working hard behind the scenes to build more and more opportunities for the talent we find from around the world.

  • Prizes!

Previous prizes include a week’s free use of an ARRI Alexa, work experience at Aardman Animation, a tour of Pinewood Studios and more, as well as cash prizes. We are securing more for 2017 as we type, and will announce details via our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds.

  • Festival attendance!

Watersprite aims to offer a travel bursary to every nominated filmmaker, whether that’s a train fare from London or a plane ticket from Rwanda! Coming to Cambridge in March is really the best prize we can offer: you get to rub shoulders with industry stars and experts, as well as all your fellow nominees. The potential to forge amazing new relationships is huge.

  • Top-level judging!

An army of filmmakers from around the world help us to create our shortlists, in our first round of online judging. Then the shortlisted films are taken into professional juries, where experts in each discipline will debate each film’s merit at length. Once the four nominees are decided, the films are then discussed again (this can get heated!) and the final vote is cast. It’s a blind ballot, so nobody but the jury chair and our Head of Awards will know the winners until they are announced on the night itself!

  • It’s free!

Oh yes, that’s the final reason to enter – it’s FREE! One of our main priorities is removing barriers for talented new filmmakers, so the festival costs nothing to enter or attend.
