Blasts from the Past: films from the 2011 Watersprite Awards
El Ambidiestro (The Ambidextrous)
Winner of The Film of the Year, The Fiction Award and The Screenplay Award at the 2011 Watersprite Awards
by Antonio Palomino Rodriguez
During the Spanish Civil War, up to 200,000 people died. This film highlights the absurdity of death in the name of ideology, and highlights the plight of the people caught in the middle – literally. It’s a poignantly humorous exploration of the futility of war, the danger of putting ideology before humanity, and it is a masterclass in screenwriting for the short format. Enjoy!
